“Stuff your eyes with wonder, live as if you’d drop dead in ten seconds. See the world. It’s more fantastic than any dream made or paid for in factories.”

City & State- Memphis, TN

City & State- Memphis, TN

There aren't a lot of what you would call artisan coffee shops in the city of Memphis but City & State stands out as a clear favorite. This was actually our first stop in Memphis before we checked into our Airbnb.

The shop is a cozy mixture between artisan coffee and carefully curated retail offerings. We ended up getting our coffee to go as the small space was pretty full but browsed the retail side before we left. I'm a sucker for cute enamel pins since they're affordable and small souvenirs. I picked one up here that aptly says, "Yay coffee!"

I highly recommend getting the Bon Bon which was a version of my all time favorite espresso drink, a latte made with a touch of sweetened condensed milk. Think a lighter version of hot Vietnamese coffee :)

A similar drink, the Cuban, from Crema was my go-to treat while living in Nashville, TN.

The interior at City & State was really cute with a great statement wall behind the counter. I would also add that there was more seating in the outdoor patio area that we couldn't take advantage of during our December visit. We'll be sure to spend a little more time here during our next trip.
