Burgess Falls- Sparta, TN
Every time I visit Nashville, I also try to get outside the city to one of the gorgeous state parks nearby. Awhile back I read a great post that outlined several impressive waterfalls within a couple hours of the city. This is a great way to catch up with my friends there that I don't see very often as well as get some exercise between lattes and Southern food.
On this trip we visited Burgess Falls, about a little under 2 hours outside the city. This is a really short hike for the spectacular view. The path is really easy and accessible with an impressive overlook of the falls. We saw several posts online that mentioned the trail down to the falls as strenuous but we didn't find it nearly as difficult as the hike down to Fall Creek Falls. The actual stairwell to the base was blocked off due to some recent flood damage but overlooking the valley from the top of the falls was really pretty on it's own.
I think we would bring a picnic next time since the hike was fairly short. It didn't take very long to explore the actual falls though it was nice to stop and view the small falls towards the beginning of the trail. Who could ask for more hiking in February? I would really recommend stopping if you're looking for a less challenging trail or passing through on a trip.
