Mastodon State Historic Site- Imperial, Missouri

Last weekend I went back to Mastodon State Historic Site to hike the Limestone Hill Trail again with my dogs. I had intended on adding the smaller loop on to the hike but it was harder than I imagined to take both dogs hiking by myself. I’m sure it will get easier as the puppy works on his training but maybe they just need to be on separate leashes. They got themselves wrapped around a tree more than once 🙂

The fall colors on the hike were amazing though! I don’t think they’ll stick around much longer but was so happy to enjoy them on at least one hike. This made for hike 4 in the 52 week challenge and I’m still on track*. It’s a cold and wet forecast this weekend but I’m hoping to still get out there.

Mastodon State Historic Site- Imperial, Missouri

Last weekend we hiked the Limestone Hill Trail at Mastodon State Historic Site with both of our dogs. This was our puppy Gilbert’s first non-paved hiking path and he absolutely loved it! Since he’s a mini-Aussie, he needs a lot of exercise and entertainment.

I really enjoyed this trail with a mix of rock and smooth path with a little altitude gain for a short trail. It was a pretty wooded area with a small break towards the beginning to pass through a patch of field. Next time I plan on adding the option loop to cover a bit more distance.

I’m also excited that it’s officially beanie season and flannel season. Fall is my favorite time of year and I was getting worried we were going to skip over this year. There’s nothing quite like that slight chill in the air to make for a great hike.
